HOW TO RUN A COST EFFECTIVE, RESPONSIVE & INNOVATIVE SUPPLY CHAIN
By – Wenerios Tsagkalidis – VP Supply Chain – Unilever
The Unilever Ice Cream business is highly seasonal, extremely weather sensitive and very innovation driven. Over the last couple of years, we’ve turned the Supply Chain from a local-for-local to a truly regional one under one single IT platform, while at the same time achieving significant and sustained improvements in Safety, End-to-End Quality, Customer Service and Cost Competitiveness.
We’re on our way to double the size of our business, while reducing our environmental impact and increasing the social benefits of our business.
The Ice Cream Supply Chain plays a crucial role. We are acting in an end-to-end fashion, be it by sustainable sourcing, by reducing our energy consumption in manufacturing, warehousing, logistics & distribution, by reducing our business waste through responsiveness, on-shelf-availability and manufacturing excellence programs.

As Supply Chain professionals, we are always challenged with taking costs out of our supply chains.
• Are there any tools or mechanisms in place to periodically check that our rates are always competitive? • How do we know that the rates we are currently paying are still competitive in the market?
• How do we align service performance with competitive pricing?
